M. RUTH TODD GRADUATE AND POSTDOCTORAL INTERNSHIP GRANT

M. Ruth Todd (1913-1984) was a member of the original Joseph A. Cushman lab and the recipient of the first Cushman award (1980). She was a remarkable person, role model, and leader in foraminiferal research. The purpose of this internship grant created in her honor is to advance the careers of graduate students (M.S. and Ph.D.) and postdoctoral investigators studying micropaleontology. Undergraduates who are graduating and applying to a M.S. or Ph.D. program are also welcome to apply. Awards will consist of up to $7,000 USD in unrestricted funds, not subject to university overhead, to be used to support living, travel, and research expenses..

The internship grant is intended to provide support to graduate students and postdoctoral investigators who seek an opportunity at another institution to further their knowledge and research interests on any aspect of fossil or living foraminifera and/or allied organisms.


The internship application must include the following materials:

●    The applicant’s Curriculum Vitae
●    Up to 3-page summary from the applicant outlining their project goals, justifying the need for funding, and providing a preliminary budget
●    Letter of support from the primary academic advisor/supervisor explaining how this internship opportunity will support the research interests and career goals
●    Letter of support from the hosting supervisor/collaborator/laboratory PI stating their  willingness and capability to host an investigator at their institution

We encourage all qualified applicants, and especially invite those from groups underrepresented in science, to apply.
